Five works, one story – how I drew Russia
Mina Nishant Kumar is a media artist from India and a participant of the 19th «Dialogue of Cultures». This year marks the second edition of the project «Russia: A View from India». It was born a year ago thanks to curators Akshat Sinha and Savita Gupta — and has already become a dialogue where paintings, photographs, and essays serve as interpreters between the two countries.

«The audience reaction was very warm — people stopped at my works for a long time, peered into the details, and even thought it was digital printing, not hand-drawn graphics. My style creates this effect — and, honestly, it was nice to hear that.»
I also became part of this story. For the exhibition, I prepared five drawings — each one holds my impression of my trip to Russia. Three of them are based on impressions from my cultural visit to Russia, and two were created from photographs found on the internet.
One photograph from the Hermitage Theatre attracted particular attention: it took a central place on the exhibition wall. In the first hours of the opening, I kept seeing people returning to it again and again. People were delighted when I told them about the significance of the photograph with Ashot Egishevich Dhazoyan. After all, it symbolizes that I became the first Indian to carry the Indian flag into the Hermitage.
